A Big Day!

Today we visited Villeneuve-les-Avignon, a village on the western side of the Rhone river, opposite Avignon.  There’s a Saturday Brocante market (antiques) which we hadn’t visited before, with the promise of champagne and oysters.  Although the champagne and oysters weren’t forthcoming today, the village was very interesting, with a fort and an abbey with beautiful views over Avignon and the surrounding countryside.

Lunch at Marsanne, then on to Carrieres de Lumieres, a limestone quarry, where this year there was a sound and light show featuring the ocean and all that you could hope to see of its creatures.  Brilliant.  Then some wine tasting, an Aperol spritz (it’s extremely warm here!) and back to the cottage.

A very full day!
