Tour de France

It is now Friday evening, and we have arrived in the Occitane region on the Mediterranean coast. Our last day in Provence was spent in the village of Menerbes where author Peter Mayle sought refuge after writing his very entertaining book “A Year in Provence” (highly recommended) and then paying the price of fame by being plagued by bus loads of tourists parking in front of his original house in Bonnieux to take pictures! We then hurried home to watch Australia’s Ben O’Connor win Stage 18 of the Tour de France!!!! OK, it’s no big deal down under, but in France it is huge (and great for us, because we don’t have to get up in the middle of the night to enjoy it).
