Adventures in Rome

Our first day in Rome was somewhat complicated by the fact that our luggage decided it would like to go to Athens for a little holiday all by itself instead (it finally arrived at our apartment last night). So it was that we arrived for our tour of the Vatican Museum wearing the same clothes that we had been wearing since Sunday. If we smelt bad, and I’m sure we did, our guide was too polite to notice. We were, however, rewarded. 30,000 people wander through this amazing museum every day and by pure chance, we were the first through the doors. We enjoyed empty galleries and unimpeded photo opportunities all the way to the Sistine chapel!
