A Bit of Trivia

One of the first things that strikes you about the Mediterranean is the colour of the water – an almost unreal, shimmering blue.  It turns out the Mediterranean’s deep blue comes down to a mix of science and nature.  The sea here is incredibly clear, with very few particles or algae floating around. That means there’s nothing to block sunlight, and the water absorbs most colours except blue – so that’s what bounces back to your eyes.  Add to that the depth of the sea, the bright sun, and usually calm conditions, and you get this stunning, crystal-clear blue that looks like it’s straight out of a postcard.  Definitely one of those places where photos just don’t do it justice.
