Diet Disaster

I had, rather delusionally, thought that with some restraint and lots of walking I could prevent the usual holiday waistline expansion. I was destined to fail, of course. We have been in Beaune in eastern France for three days now, enjoying incredible wine tastings (this region is the mecca for lovers of Pinot Noir), truffle hunting dog demonstrations and totally irresistible food. The latest diet disaster was a cheese we have discovered called Brillat-Savarin, a triple cream cow’s milk cheese that is about 75% butter fat. Totally irresistible, naturally. Tomorrow, we catch the train from here to Dijon, only 40km away, to spend one last day sight-seeing on Wednesday before we set sail for Paris on Thursday and start the long journey home on Friday.
