Yesterday we visited the weekly market in Vaison-la-Romaine, one of the biggest in the area. The streets were packed with stalls selling fresh fruit and vegetables, local cheeses, olives, herbs, clothing, and all sorts of Provencal products. It was a great place to wander and pick up a few local treats. The photo is of the town’s famous Roman bridge, built in the 1st century AD. It has survived for almost 2,000 years, including the devastating 1992 flood when the Ouvèze river rose high enough to completely submerge the bridge. Despite the force of the water, it remained standing and is still in use today.
