This looks like a fairly boring picture, but it is the actual site of the battle of Waterloo, where the Duke of Wellington finally defeated the French Emperor Napoleon. A week or so ago we visited the site of the battle of Agincourt, where King Henry V led a sick, starving English army to defeat a much larger, heavily armoured French force. So, two very famous French defeats. Agincourt is in France, and there is just a small plaque at the side of a minor road – quite hard to find – with no car park. Waterloo is in Belgium, and they have built a museum and a huge monument on the site, with acres of parking, a restaurant and a gift shop. Tells a story, don’t you think!
